Whenever you look for health information, it's important to know that the people behind the information are knowledgeable and have reputable credentials.  This website is largely based on the work of award-winning physician Terry Shintani, MD, JD, MPH. Please look below for his credentials (please see the comparison of his credentials compared to that of other health-book authors).

Highest National Award

The highest national award was given to Dr. Shintani's obesity and health program in 1992 by the U.S. Secretary of Health.  In that program, he demonstrated that by using whole, natural foods, and without calorie restriction, he was able to reverse obesity, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and other health problems in participants over a short period of time.

Excellent Credentials and Experience

For over 20 years, he has been working in the fields of preventive medicine, (board certified), integrative medicine (associate chair of the dept. of Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine) and lifestyle medicine (member of the National Advisory Board of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine).  His resume is available below.  Here is a comparison of Dr. Shintani's credentials compared to others who have written books on the subject of nutrition, health and weight control.

Successful Track Record

Dr. Shintani's programs have shown documented improvement in health, weight control, in virtually all its participants.  (see published articles citations below and watch and hear testimonials on this website).  In addition, this program has had outstanding long-term results in a 7-year follow up study.

Record of Service to People Like You

In addition, unlike most health authors who are well known, Dr. Shintani has served underserved communities for virtually all of his career.  He has compiled an impressive record of service to the community in every imaginable sector.  He has conducted over 700 programs and activities for groups from senior groups to elementary school - from National Institutes of Health to prisons - and from international corporations to homeless shelters.  He has won numerous awards for his work in the most disadvantaged of communities.   For his work, he was formally designated a "Living Treasure of Hawaii" in 2006.

We can think of no more important treasure than health.  We hope to provide you with useful information so that this can be your personal stash of "health treasure" that you'll always come back to again and again.

We wish you the best of health

Dr. Diane, Administrator
