An important concept developed by Dr. Shintani is his Eat More Index (EMI), which he also calls Mass Index and Shintani Mass Index (SMI) in the HawaiiDiet. In the Eat More, Weigh Less Diet, he explains how to use the EMI to evaluate the weight loss potential of different foods so you can choose the kind of food that will help you lose weight.
